USE OF MOBILE TELEPHONE IN INFORMATION CENTER
A mobile telephone is also called
cellular gadget, cell phone, hand phone or simply a phone.
With advent of technology more
and more trendy phone are emerging in the market thus making them an important
tool in communication and access to information. Android phone have further
pushed technology to another level as user can now access information from the
comfort of their seats and without a hustle.
The use
of mobile telephones in information centers includes:-
- Help employees to keep in touch at all times within or outside the information centers for example in a library , a librarian can keep in touch with other staff on how they are carrying out their duties e.g. cataloging.
- Help to facilitate socialization and interacting with information users e.g. through mails, face books
- In a documentation centers mobile telephones are used in viewing documents in the popular MS –office file format.
- Mobile telephones are used in information centers in advertising the products and services offered e.g. library.
- Mobile phones are used to prevent theft cases in information centers for example when a person steals a vital document or information materials like books he or she can be tracked by the use of mobile telephone.
Mobile
telephones also have limitations to their use which includes factors such as:-
- Small screen size
- Lack of windows
- Navigation.
- Lack of JavaScript and cookies
- Types of pages accessible
- Speed
- Broken pages
- Compressed pages Size of messages
- Cost
In summary with or without the
limitations of mobile phone, mobile phones have gained lots of popularity in
both the information centers and to the general public at large across all age
groups and age set. This has made its adoption to be easy and everyone is ready
to embrace all the changes the come with be it positive or negative.
The challenges in the use of mobile phones as a news media tool have to be seriously addressed.

DeleteThe greatest challenge od mobile phones are now accessible to all ages even to young people who are not yet adults and children. This makes it had to monitor the information content that they are able to access hence leading to moral decay in them.
